Build a study plan

Turn a syllabus and deadline into realistic weekly work. · 6 min read
  1. 01

List topics, assessment dates and the type of performance required for each assessment.

  2. 02

Break topics into small sessions with a specific output such as solved questions or a diagram.

  3. 03

Reserve weekly review and catch-up time instead of filling every available hour.

Important tip

Plan evidence of learning, not only time spent studying.

Practical example

With four weeks and eight topics, schedule two 45-minute sessions per topic for learning and practice, then protect the final week for mixed recall, a timed mock and correction of mistakes.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Writing “study networking” instead of defining a result such as “solve five subnetting questions.”
  • Filling every available hour without catch-up time.
  • Giving equal time to strong and weak topics without testing recall.

Active practice, feedback and spaced review usually improve learning more than repeatedly reading the same notes.
